Persons with bipolar disorder often lose weight. The severe weight loss is indicative of the manic episodes in which the person is so active that he or she canīt stop to eat, or so hyperactive that he or she is burning more calories than consuming. It is also a symptom of the depressive episodes bcause persons with depression often lose their appetite.

The weight loss is part of the disorder and can best be treated by treating the disorder.
